this 1971 album is fairly typical of Charley's music, with his excellent baritone being well suited to the ballads that he loves to sing. Side 1 opens with On the southbound, an upbeat song. The remaining songs on Side 1 (In my world you don't belong, You never gave up on me, I'd rather love you, Instant loneliness) are all ballads, but they reflect different moods and situations, their pace varying between slow and mid-tempo.
Side 2 opens with the title track, which is an upbeat mid-tempo song. Another excellent song, A place for the lonesome, precedes a cover of a Conway Twitty classic, Hello darlin'. Two more great songs (You're still the only one I'll ever know, That's my way) complete Side 2.
